Singing with the Whole Self Here's a good opportunity to visit Hornby's new yurt called Deerheart Sanctuary, set deep in the woods behind the Artemis Gallery at 7720 Central Road, and spend a day singing. This workshop will start with body awareness, visualization and vocal warmups. We'll learn several songs in three or four part harmony. You don't need to read. All music will be taught by ear, though notation will be provided for those who prefer to see their music. Songs will include a rousing gospel song, an arrangement of the Navajo Beauty Chant, and more. Singing can be a form of meditation and bring peace to the soul. Tuesday August 16th 9:30 till 3:30. Please register by August 14th. If more than 20 people attend, the workshop cost will be reduced to $35, so bring a friend! For more information, call 335-0531

Public Information Meeting on Hornby Radio CHFR-FM invites you: June 16th at Joe King Park at 7:30 pm Mark your calendars for this important event! For radio to survive on Hornby, we need public support. It takes a large volunteer base to support a functioning radio station, and we are a small group. Come to the meeting to find out what you can do—sit at an information table at the Market, make some telephone calls, come to a work party or help make food for the work parties—or host a radio show! We have had a lot of help so far, for which we are grateful! Without it we couldn’t have come this far. But now we need the community’s full support. If you think community radio would be good for Hornby (and who doesn’t?), then consider putting your oar into the water. Many hands make light work! This community has shown great initiative in projects like the Thatch purchase, the Community Hall and Joe King’s renovations. Now’s the time to bring that energy to the radio! If you want to help, but can’t make the meeting, come by the Gas Bar anytime and pick up a Volunteer Application Form. Thank you all in advance for your support!
Hilary's Garden Party Hilary Brown would like to invite her many friends and Hornby neighbours to her garden on Sunday July 10th from 3 to 6 pm. She intends to rename the garden and to dedicate it to be used as a healing garden, particularly for people with Macular Degeneration. Graham Herbert will play his harp in the garden, then Hilary will talk about her plans, after which the Peace Singers will give a short concert. Please come and show your support this wonderful project. Because of parking limitations, please hike, bike, carpool and leave your vehicles at the road. Hilary also requests that dogs be left at home. Louise Jarvis (for Hilary)
